Position Summary
The Mobile Market Assistant supports the daily operations of the Nuestras Raíces Mobile Market, a traveling farmers market serving Holyoke and surrounding communities. This role assists the Market Manager with customer service, produce handling, stocking, cleaning, and maintaining produce freshness and display standards.
The position requires riding in the market van (148’’ WB mid-roof transit van), loading and unloading produce, setting up and closing the market, and providing excellent customer service at all market stops.
The assistant will occasionally conduct produce pickups from local farms or regional wholesalers. This position also includes Saturday market management, including point-of-sale transactions, driving the market vehicle, and overseeing a market intern when the manager is off-site.
Additional responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing produce containers, receiving and storing produce orders, breaking down cardboard, transporting materials between La Finca and the Main Street office, vetting produce for freshness, delivering produce donations, and managing trash, recycling, and compost. The assistant may also serve as back-up for the Market Manager, including driving the van, purchasing produce, conducting inventory, collecting data, and organizing storage.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales & Customer Service: Assist customers with product selection, weigh and bag produce, and remove unsellable items from displays.
- Produce Pick-Up: Drive the market van to local farms (~30 miles), purchase produce from wholesalers, and receive/store produce from farmers.
- Sanitation: Clean and sanitize produce containers and materials following protocols.
- Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain a clean and organized workspace at all market sites.
- Manager Support: Serve as driver and primary salesperson when the Market Manager is unavailable.
- Produce Donations: Sort unsellable produce and deliver donations to partner organizations.
- Cardboard Management: Break down and transport cardboard for reuse or recycling.

Position Benefit
- Status: Part-time, seasonal
- Hours: 35 hours/week
- Compensation: $18.00 – $19.50/hour
- Benefits: Paid federal holidays and sick time accrual
